How to dress for a Boudoir Photoshoot?

Planning how to dress for a photoshoot is one thing, and deciding what to wear for a boudoir session is something completely different. For many clients it’s their first time doing a boudoir photoshoot! If you have never done something before, how are you meant to know!? If you learn just one thing from this week’s blog – I want it to be VARIETY. Bring as many options to your photoshoot as will fit in your bag (styles, colours, accessories). Let’s look at 4 main categories to explore when choosing how to dress for boudoir photo shoot.

4 boudoir outfit categories to consider

Two piece set

You can’t go wrong with a nice underwear set. You can have just your bra and undies on for photos, or pair it with ‘normal’ clothing. It’s a great way if you don’t want the photos to be too revealing. For example an over-sized unbuttoned white shirt, or a classy blazer on top of stunning undergarments always photograph well.

One piece set

Think lingerie – bodysuits, vintage slip dresses, shape wear. One piece sets are perfect if your conscious of your body, they will help you shape your body the way you want. For the ultimate shaping – a corset is my favourite, it’s a classic, and a bonus point to adding variety of looks.

Casual clothing

Think blazers, sheer tops, jeans, skirts, cardigans. As mentioned earlier you can bring casual clothing and use it to cover up. You can also wear it without underwear at all, or on top of some gorgeous lingerie. If you are doing a boudoir photoshoot as a gift to your partner, then bring something from his wardrobe. It will make the images even more special and sexy for him if you’re wearing his shirt, a favourite tie or a football top.

Accessories

Load up on your favourite accessories! Jewellery, stockings, garter belts, see-through mesh gowns, corsets, you name it! Also high heels to make your legs look even longer. You can get really creative with this! Mix and match your accessories, add layers, and shape your body.

(Bonus tip!) No outfit – no problem!

To mix up the images in your collection, you can have no underwear at all… but wrap yourself in a piece of fabric, use a towel, a pillow or some other prop to cover yourself up. Some of my favourite boudoir photos are the ones where my client is covering themselves with a silk fabric, or a white sheet. Simplicity is the key.

That is all for this week’s post, I hope it was helpful! If you’re looking for a boudoir photographer in Birmingham or West Midlands, feel free to get in touch.
