What Do I Post: 5 content ideas for service-based businesses

I’m a professional photographer, working with small business owners and freelance professionals on a regular basis. The question I hear the most is ‘I’m a service-based business. What the heck do I post on social media?’ Are you looking for answers to the same question? Look no further, here are 5 of my favourite content ideas for service-based businesses.

5 effective content ideas for service-based businesses you need in your social media strategy:

1. Introduce yourself

Photo &/or video social posts of you as a business owner showing up, saying hello and giving a little introduction to your new followers instantly builds trust and connection on a more personal level.

Do you ever show your beautiful face on social media?

Here’s one of my ‘Introduction’ posts on Instagram

 2. You Why

What inspires you and drives you to help your clients become more successful/confident/healthy/fit/photogenic/organized/etc (fill in the blank)?

When your clients see you’re passionate about your craft, they will know they will be in good hands, hence closer towards signing up.

3. Client testimonial

What our clients say about us is the best marketing material there can be! People sharing their experience of working with you is gold when it comes to social media and blog posts. Share it, repurpose it, and re-share again!

You can pick out ideas from what your clients say about you and your service and insert them into upcoming marketing campaigns, or even notice similar trends in responses to use in your sales copy. Get creative with it!

4. Share some of your expertise online

Useful, bitesize pieces of advice shared in engaging IG reels or TikToks will show your followers you’re an expert in your field, and trust your knowledge and expertise to solve their problem.

5. Finally, talk about the services you offer

It sounds like common sense, doesn’t it? When it comes to social media, we don’t want to come across as salesy (brrr!). Though at the end of the day we are business owners, and we NEED to talk about what we sell. Otherwise, how would people know!? If you’re posting fun or educational little videos on social media without clearly stating what it is exactly that you offer, there’s NO offer.

As a thank you for sticking around till the end, here’s a bonus tip!

Make sure you use only the best quality content you can get your hands onto.

As a professional photographer, I see this all the time – low quality, blurry photos on profile images and ‘about me’ pages of service-based businesses… Think about it, everything you publish online, whether it’s on your social media or website – it’s the forefront of your business. Think about it as the window of a shop: will a potential client want to come in and buy from you, when the first thing they’ll see is a poor representation of your service?

Invest into a professional personal branding photography and video content shoot; fill your website with top tier professional visual content – this includes your business headshot, branding portraits and any details that are relevant to you and your business. Why not share all these professional photos and videos also to your social media channels? Here’s a brand photoshoot shot list essentials you might find useful.

I hope you enjoyed the above content ideas for service-based businesses. Which one is your favourite?
